Walk into any mall over the Chinese New Year period, and it would have been hard to miss the horoscopes on large display boards telling us how to live in the Year of the Snake. So at JC@BFEC, we dug into the Bible to see what God has to say about living wisely this year.

Who is the snake in Genesis 3?

The snake is actually the devil (Revelation 12:9).

What does the devil want?

He wants to destroy us and bring us to hell where he’s going.

How does the devil do this?

By lying to us, just like he did with Adam and Eve, so as to make us think that God is not good, that God is a liar and we shouldn’t believe God.

Yet the good news of the Bible is that Jesus has come to destroy the devil’s work (1 John 3:8)! Because of Jesus, Christians can obey God and stand up to the devil. And God’s promise in James 4:7 is this: “[The devil] will run away from you.”

So how can we live wisely in the Year of the Snake? Let’s rejoice that Jesus has defeated that old snake, the devil. And let’s resist or stand up to the devil, and he will run away from us.
