Mid-Autumn Musings | Sep 2025

For many Chinese in Singapore, the Mid-Autumn Festival is a time for the family to gather, eat mooncakes, and carry lanterns. JC@BFEC joined in the festivities by doing just that! We gathered for a family dinner at McDonald’s (not very Chinese but a hit with our members!) before taking a stroll along Geylang Park Connector to Stadium Waterfront. There, we carried lanterns and enjoyed mooncakes under the moonlight. At least that was the plan!

As it turned out, it started pouring while we were at Mc’s! But the wet weather did nothing to dampen our spirits. After dinner, we headed over to the sheltered track at the National Stadium to carry on our activities.

For quite a few of our members, “family” doesn’t evoke positive feelings. Some of them have lived for years in a home for adults with special needs, estranged from their families. Others carry the scars of family neglect and abuse. Thankfully, there are many “helping hands” in Singapore that provide them with accommodation, food, even recreation and friendship. But as Christians, we have a unique calling to be family to them – in Christ, they are our very brothers and sisters in God’s family.

What does this mean for us at Jesus Club? It means we celebrate special occasions together, like Mid-Autumn. It means we prioritise our fortnightly family gatherings around God’s Word. More fundamentally, it means we regard our members as family to be loved and cherished. Please pray for us as we strive to love them this way.

We’re lovin’ it!
Celebrating birthdays with cake…
…and mooncakes handmade with love!
Takes more work than a flick of a switch…
But there’s no school like the old school (lanterns that is)!
